Tony Hawk announced at Sony's CES 2015 keynote last night that a new skateboarding game bearing his name will be released on PS4 this year.

No details were given; it's not even clear if it is a PS4 exclusive yet, but Hawk did say that the project was further along than he expected it would be after teasing it last November.

There's no official line yet on what form the game will take. Previous games started out as individual courses and maps and then grew into open world games in the early to mid-noughties. His tweet did however tease that it may be more in line with the former Tony Hawk Pro Skater series.

It may not be a PS4 or PlayStation exclusive, but Sony promoting it seems to suggest some sort of deal has been struck with Activision, possibly regarding downloadable content for the game, a marketing deal or timed exclusivity.

Also at the keynote, which doesn't traditionally feature much in the way of gaming announcements, Sony also celebrated PlayStation 4's enormous success having sold in excess of 18.5 million units worldwide, a figure outpacing every home console to date.
