The agent of Vlad Chiriches has suggested the defender may only be with Tottenham Hotspur for a couple of seasons before moving for big money to London rivals Chelsea.

Chiriches only moved to White Hart Lane this summer from Steaua Bucharest but it seems his long term future may not be at the north London club.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is said to have been monitoring the progress of the 23 year old for some time and may attempt to lure him away from Tottenham if he excels in the Premier League.

The Romania international cost nearly £8m and despite failing to earn a first start in the league, he was handed his debut in the 4-0 Capital One Cup victory over Aston Villa last month.

However, it seems as though he may only remain at Tottenham for a short time after his agent Victor Becali told Sport.ro that he expected Chelsea to come in with a significant offer.

"If he has one or two good seasons at Tottenham, Chelsea will be willing to pay a large sum to buy Chiriches," said Becali, as reported in the Express. "Mourinho says he has been aware of him since he was at Real Madrid."

Despite the comments from his agent, Chiriches must first concentrate on forcing his way into the Tottenham first team in order to demonstrate his ability.

This will be no easy feat with the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul all battling for the two positions in the centre of defence.

Chelsea similarly have three central defenders in John Terry, David Luiz and Gary Cahill competing for two places. But with the former England captain coming towards the end of his playing career Mourinho may well be looking for younger alternatives in the coming seasons.
