Emmanuel Adebayor's Tottenham Hotspur future is looking increasingly bleak as Andre Villas-Boas prepares to hand an opportunity to teenager Shaquile Coulthirst over the exiled striker in club's final Europa League game.

The north Londoners welcome Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala to White Hart Lane with their status of group winners firmly established having won all five of their group games, giving the Spurs boss ample opportunity to rest first team players ahead of hectic fixture schedule over the next three weeks.

But according to the Evening Standard, Adebayor will not be one of those people despite having returned to training following a knee injury.

Instead, the Tottenham manager will hand an opportunity to 18-year-old Coulthirst, who starred for the club in last season's NextGen competition in a string of performances marked by a hat-trick against Barcelona.

His performances earned him a spot on the first team substitutes' bench last season, but he could make his first real appearance tomorrow in a game unlikely to be as competitive as previous ties, with both clubs comfortably qualified as group winners and runners up respectively.

Abebayor has made just one appearance for the club this season - as a substitute in his side's 6-0 hammering at Manchester City - and Thursday's dead rubber clash could be seen as the perfect occasion to afford the striker some much needed game time.

However, another snub would suggest the former Arsenal man has no role to play in the club's season with attempts to offload him in the January transfer window almost a certainty.

In addition to being an ideal opportunity to rest players, Tottenham's final Europa League game presents the manager with the chance to give some of his returning stars some much needed minutes.

Both Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen returned to first team training on Wednesday and could have some role to play having recovered from toe and ankle injuries respectively.

"It took so much time for the joint to heal," Villas-Boas said of Rose, who has been unavailable since September. "Now its good news because we have him back, almost fit."
