Jonas scored 10 La Liga goals at Valencia last season

Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign former Valencia striker Jonas as a free agent, according to reports.

The 30-year-old Brazilian forward enjoyed a successful last season with Valencia, scoring 10 La Liga goals in 22 starting appearances.

But even though Jonas still had a year left on his contract with the La Liga side, they decided to rescind his contract as part of their huge summer overhaul, following the signings of strikers Alvaro Negredo from Manchester City and Rodrigo from Benfica.

Reports in Portugal have since claimed Benfica are desperately trying to secure his services while the Daily Mail claim Jonas is considering to a move to the Premier League instead.

Tiago Goncalves, his agent, is said to have offered Jonas's services to Tottenham, while Sunderland are also monitoring the situation.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who knows La Liga well after his spell at Espanyol, could be tempted to make with the Brazilian star a final addition to his side after failing to secure a striker during the summer transfer window.

The Argentine boss bolstered the squad with Michel Vorm, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, DeAndre Yedlin and Benjamin Stambouli during the summer.

However, having just Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane as his attacking players, reports suggest Pochettino was also keen on signing a new striker, with Danny Welbeck and Loic Remy among the candidates.

Meanwhile, Jonas has written a farewell letter to Valencia but refused to reveal his next move.

"Thank you to this great club in Spain and Europe for giving me the opportunity to be part of your great history," he wrote.

"As a player, I tried to give my best, be respectful, dedicated and professional, but sometimes things don't turn out as we all hoped. Playing in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, Champions League and Uefa Europa League with Valencia CF is an opportunity that very few have had or will ever have in their life.

"Moreover, in these three-and-a-half years, I have proven I deserved to be here, scoring 52 goals and providing my teammates with 23 assists."
