Tottenham Hotspur forward Erik Lamela is likely to sit out of Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Colombia after a muscle problem prevented him from training with the group.

Lamela, 23, was unable to finish a training session with his national team on Sunday 15 November following the muscle strain, as reported by Argentine newspaper Ole.

While he travelled with the squad ahead of Tuesday's match in Barranquilla, the former Roma star has now missed two days of training with his teammates, according to Gol Caracol. They add the forward is still feeling the effects of Sunday's knock and was left to take part in an individual training session ahead of tonight's match.

Gonzalo Higuain is also a doubt after suffering an ankle problem in training on Sunday, but Gol Caracol suggest the Napoli striker has recovered and will start alongside Angel di Maria and Ezequiel Lavezzi in attack.

While he is now likely to miss Tuesday's qualifier, there has been no indication that Lamela's injury is a serious one. The Argentine will also have an extra week to recover from the knock before he comes back into Mauricio Pochettino's first-team plans, having picked up a suspension that rules him out of Sunday's Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The North London side will however be hoping Argentina take no risks with their forward, with a critical game against Chelsea awaiting on 29 November.
