Tottenham Hotspur are considering a double swoop in signing Nottingham Forest centre-back Jamaal Lascelles and Swansea City defender Ben David, according to the Daily Mail.

The north London club's new manager Mauricio Pochettino has made his intentions clear in strengthening his side's back four as he prepares to bring young players to White Hart Lane in the summer transfer window.

Spurs skipper Michael Dawson is closing in on completing his switch to Hull City, despite signing a three-year deal last season. The former Southampton boss wants Lascelles to replace the 30-year-old England international next season.

Lascelles had an impressive season with Forest last season in the Championship, which saw the 20-year-old earn a new four-and-a-half-year deal to extend his stay at The City Ground in March.

Newly promoted Premier League club Queens Park Rangers were keen on signing the English central defender.

However, Forest have turned Harry Redknapp side's £4m bid for Lascelles as their new manager Stuart Pearce says QPR's offer was nowhere close to their valuation. He also stressed his side will allow their players leave the club if Forest can reinvest from the transfer.

"QPR have put money on the table but nowhere near a valuation the boy is worth. There's no pressure to sell. I'm here to build a squad, not dismantle one," Pearce explained.

"The only way I would let anyone go is if I felt I could reinvest the money to make us stronger the day after, but apart from that the best players stay here," he added.

Forest value Lascelles at £6m and the north London club are ready to meet the Championship club's asking price for the defender's signature.

Meanwhile, Pochettino is also keen on strengthening his left-back position. Spurs currently have Danny Rose in that position, but the 24-year-old's inconsistent form has seen the Argentine manager considering to bring in a player to improve competition in the squad.

The Welsh club will only let Davies leave the Liberty Stadium if Spurs match their £12m asking price. Should the north London match the price tag for both Davies and Lascelles, it will see Pochettino seal deals for two young British defenders for £18m.
