Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move to bring Napoli midfielder Valon Behrami back to the Premier League in the summer, according to talkSPORT.

The Switzerland international, who previously played for West Ham United, moved to Fiorentina in January 2011 before eventually joining Napoli on a five-year deal after a year-and-a-half in Florence.

The report claims that Behrami is looking to leave Serie A and is considering returning to England during the upcoming transfer window. The 29-year-old has made only 21 league appearances for Rafael Benitez's side this season and wants regular first team opportunities in the future.

The Spurs currently have Paulinho, Mousa Dembele, Sandro and Nabil Bentaleb currently vying for the available positions in the centre of the field.

However, Paulinho's future with his current employers looks to be drawing to a close with reports suggesting that the Brazilian has agreed to join Chelsea in the coming months. Meanwhile, his compatriot Sandro has been marred with injuries, which has restricted the 25-year-old to only 16 league appearances this campaign.

A report from last month's Mirror claims that Serie A giants AS Roma are pursuing Sandro's services as manager Rudi Garcia wants to add a robust defensive midfielder. Should these purported exits occur in the coming months, Behrami's move to north London could easily work out in favour of all parties.

While Dembele and 19-year-old Bentaleb are likely to remain at White Hart Lane, the Spurs would consider adding more engines in the middle of the park by signing an experienced midfielder.

Behrami has endured troublesome times during his stay in Italy. He has claimed that he has "had enough" after falling victim to multiple robberies, with the latest incident occurring in February this year.

However, talkSPORT's report also states that Tottenham could face competition from fellow Premier League side Everton, who are believed to be monitoring Behrami's situation alongside Serie A outfit Inter Milan.

Liverpool too have been linked with making a move for the former West Ham man alongside his Napoli teammate, Gokhan Inler during the summer transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers aims to bolster his side in order to add depth and maintain his player's fitness throughout the upcoming campaign.
