Tottenham Hotspur have recalled winger Kenny McEvoy from his season-long loan with Peterborough United ahead of schedule.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 international McEvoy, who has been likened to Tottenham great Gareth Bale in both his playing style and appearance, has returned to White Hart Lane after eight appearances for the Posh this season.

The 20-year-old winger is yet to make a first team appearance for Spurs and it remains to be seen whether manager Mauricio Pochettino will include him in his first team plans, or whether he will return to Tottenham's development squad.

Peterborough confirmed the player's return to north London via a statement which read: "Winger Kenny McEvoy has been recalled by his parent club Tottenham Hotspur and the youngster has now returned to White Hart Lane.

"McEvoy was on a season-long loan from the Premier League club. He scored one goal during his time with the club, the opening goal in the 3-2 win over Milton Keynes Dons at London Road.

"We would like to thank Kenny for his efforts and wish him the best of luck in his career."

McEvoy's return to White Hart Lane is likely to have been influenced by the youngster's lack of playing time at the League One club rather than Pochettino looking to include him in first team duties, however. Of his seven league appearances, only two of them have been starts with the rest coming as cameo appearances off the bench.
