Tottenham are set to make a £17m bid for Arsenal target Julian Draxler, according to the Metro.

The Schalke midfielder has been a long-standing target for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger. Arsenal also had a bid rejected in the January transfer window after they failed to meet the player's release-clause, which was said to be in the region of £37m.

Mauricio Pochettino, who took over at Spurs earlier in the summer, is in the process of rebuilding the team. It is believed that he wants to build a young and technical team full of hunger that can aim at a Champions League spot at the very least.

Draxler is currently on World Cup duty with the German squad and got his first taste of action on the pitch in their semi-final win against hosts Brazil.

The 20-year old midfielder has been a key part of the Schalke squad in the last couple of seasons, and the team are reluctant to let go of their young star and are hoping to fend off interest from potential suitors during this summer transfer window as well.

Earlier in the summer, the Germany international himself came out and spoke about Arsenal's offer and how wishes to stay and continue at Schalke for another year.

"In January, there was the offer of Arsenal, but I decided to stay. I will do the same this summer. I want to play one year more in Schalke," Draxler said, according to the Guardian.

However, this will not stop Spurs and Pochettino as they go ahead to make their bid of £17m for Draxler.
