The White Hart Lane finished fifth, losing the final Champions League spot to Arsenal on the final day of last season. Spurs have signed new faces as Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue have joined AVB at the north London side.

Dembele remains confident his side can challenge their league rivals for the Champions league spot. The former Fulham midfielder believes Spurs' new addition has further strengthened their squad.

"We had quite a good season last year but at the end we didn't make what we aimed for. But this year we have learned from this and we can't make the same mistakes again. We have the quality (to make the top four). It's going to be very difficult because everyone has spent money, but we have bought some good players too," Dembele said.

"We have also been playing a year longer together. Everyone believes that we can do something this year. We have bought some good players. I can see already that we are playing well, but we can still play much better," he added.

Spurs won their first game of the season after defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 away from home. Meanwhile Arsene Wenger saw his side suffer a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates, despite Arsenal taking an early lead in the game.

The Gunners are yet to make any top signings this summer. However, Spurs have added four players and the former Chelsea manager admitted his side are still looking to bring new faces to White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, AVB admitted that he is still unsure over signing a defender with less than a fortnight left in the transfer window. Spurs allowed Steven Caulker join Cardiff City earlier this summer. The Portuguese boss admitted his side's approach in bringing in a replacement for Caulker depends on Zeki Fryers' progression.

"We have options in defence. We still have [Kyle] Naughton, we have [Younes] Kaboul coming back, we have Zeki Fryers, who did very well in pre-season. I think we are covered. We might [buy] we haven't decided yet, bearing in mind Fryers's progression," AVB explained.
