Erik Lamela
Erik Lamela will not leave Tottenham for Atletico Madrid on loan, reports claim.

Tottenham have reportedly rubbished rumours that Erik Lamela is set for a loan spell away from the club this January as reports speculate the club might let him join Atletico Madrid on a temporary basis.

The 21 year old made the move to White Hart Lane in the summer for a record-breaking fee of £30m but has so far failed to set the Premier League alight as he adjusts from life in Serie A to the English game.

Lamela and Andre Villas-Boas have both said that the winger is still learning the language and will take time to adapt to a new country and league but multiple reports from Spain and England claimed this week that he might be set for a move to Atletico, who are looking to bolster in January as they sit level on points with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table.

But sources within Tottenham have told the Daily Mail that this is completely untrue; just a rumour that comes with the lead-up to the January transfer window.

If Lamela were to seal a loan-spell away from Spus it would appear that Villas-Boas would prefer the Argentine to go somewhere where he can continue to settle into life in England rather than making a move to Spain.

In the 21 year old's 14 appearances for Spurs so far this season he has managed to score just once but last month insisted that as he gets more used to life in England Lamela will become a player worthy of his sky-high fee.

"I'll work hard in training and I want to improve my language, learn the English language, that's one of my main targets," he said. "It's essential to be able to communicate in English, to talk to my team-mates and then in my personal life outside the football."
