Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches has revealed how pleased he is to have the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur after the move looked to have collapsed earlier this summer.

The 23 year old arrived in London on Thursday as he looks to sit down with Tottenham officials and finally complete his move from Steaua Bucharest.

Chiriches had been close to a move to Spurs last month but negotiations broke down and the centre-back revealed that he was left devastated when he found out his move to White Hart Lane had collapsed.

However, he is now set to join the north London club after Steaua Bucharest confirmed that a deal had been agreed.

"I had a hard time after the first round of negotiations failed, I even cried. I was upset for two days," Chiriches told DigiSport TV, as quoted on Sky Sports.

"I hope there won't be too much difference between the level of the Premier League and the level at which I have played.

"The most memorable moment of my career at Steaua was the winning of the championship, something I had dreamt of all my life. I hope I will be able to make my mark in England too."

Tottenham have been keen to recruit the Romania international as manager Andre Villas-Boas continues to build a squad capable of finally breaking into the top four and qualifying for the Champions League.

They have already completed deals for Paulinho, Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue and Erik Lamela, and it seems Chiriches could well become their next major signing.

The talented defender admitted that it was a tough decision to leave the Romanian club and gave special thanks to manager Laurentiu Reghecampf.

"I will miss all my team-mates from Steaua, especially my friend Mihai Pintilii, and I wish them good luck and to win the championship again," he added. "I thank Laurentiu Reghecampf for everything."
