Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly revived their interest in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

The Belgium international, who arrived at Villa Park from Genk for £7m last summer, enjoyed a fantastic debut season in the Premier League, notching 19 goals and four assists from 34 appearances for Paul Lambert's side.

Benteke's impressive performances caught the eye of several top clubs, including Spurs, who were strongly linked with an approach for the player at the end of last season. The interest was believed to have cooled in recent weeks but, according to the Mirror, the 22-year-old is now back on the radar of the north London outfit.

Tottenham have so far failed in their attempts to land any of their top striker targets for this summer - Brazil's Leandro Damiao and Spain's Roberto Soldado, with their respective clubs Internacional and Valencia rebuffing any approach for the players.

However, the report claims Spurs are confident of their chances of snapping up out-of-favour Barcelona star David Villa. Nevertheless, Andre-Villas-Boas is keen on adding another forward to his ranks in this window, especially with Emmanuel Adebayor set to leave.

Villa are very much aware of the buzz around Benteke and are understood to be looking for a transfer fee in the region of £25m for the striker.

Paulinho Excited about Frank Lampard Comparisons

Meanwhile, Spurs' new record transfer signing Paulinho has expressed his delight at being compared to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

Former Argentina playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme compared the Brazil midfielder to Lampard, ahead of his £17m move from Corinthians to Tottenham.

"This comparison is a responsibility that I will take, I will not run away from it. Lampard is a great player, not only for Chelsea, but in world football. I Intend to follow in his footsteps as he is a very professional guy," Paulinho said.

"David Luiz (Lampard's Chelsea team-mate) always speaks of him on international duty. I've always looked at what Lampard does, and to me is a huge phenomenon - the way he hits the ball, what positions he takes up - he really is incredible," the 24-year-old added.
