Valencia might join the race for out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio. Spanish publication Superdeporte claims the club's manager, Manchester United legend Gary Neville, is trying to bolster the back line of his side during the current transfer window and has the Argentine centre-back on his shopping list alongside Olympique Marseille star Nicolas N'Koulou.

Fazio have been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in recent months after falling out of favour. The 28-year-old defender has only made one appearance this season after becoming the fifth-choice centre-back behind Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and Eric Dier.

Sevilla president Pepe Castro recently revealed the Europa League holders were interested in the defender returning to the Sanchez Pizjuan, despite Fazio leaving the club on a sour note.

"We are working on a number of options and Fazio is one of them," Castro told Radio Sevilla. "He is an option but nothing has been completed yet. It is clear that Fazio did not leave Sevilla in the best of ways and that really upset me but I have to think about Sevilla's interests.

"I have to swallow my anger, because this club needs Fazio. I do not like swallowing my pride but I am willing to do something I do not like because it is in Sevilla's best interest."

However, ABC later reported that Spurs executive chairman Daniel Levy turned down their first offer, which was a loan deal with the option to make the move permanent in the summer.

And while there has not been more news about Sevilla's interest in the player in recent days, Super Deporte reports that Valencia are also considering luring him back to La Liga.

Neville has failed to win a single game in La Liga since replacing Nuno Espírito Santo in December 2015, with his side 11th in the table despite the season target of finishing in the top four. The Spanish publication claims the manager and sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch met to discuss how to put things right in the current transfer window, with both agreeing the signing of a centre-back should be a priority.

Super Deporte claims Valencia are also weighing up a bid for N'Koulou but could take advantage of Fazio's situation to get the services of the Argentine for around €7m (£5.4m, $7.6m).
