A 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit Sabah, Malaysia's Borneo island, in the early hours of 5 June but there have been no reports so far of damage or a tsunami warning.

The National Earthquake and Tsunami Centre said in a statement that the tremor was felt in most places in the state of Sabah, including Ranau, Tambun, Tuaran, Pedalaman, Kota Kinabalu and Kota Belud, according to Malaysia's national news agency, Bernama.

According to the Singapore Straits Times, the tremors shook buildings and rattled windows, including at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

No immediate damage could be ascertained.
