Chefs in Krakow have made the world’s largest lasagne as a sign of appreciation for the Italian national team, who decided to base themselves in the city throughout Euro 2012.

Taking 10 hours to cook, the hearty Italian dish was subsequently carved up into 10,000 portions.

With Italy currently preparing for their quarter final showdown with England on Sunday, Giancarlo Russo, one of the chefs cooking the enormous dish, was not sure if the Italian team would be feasting on the famous foodstuff.

"I don't know about the players or if they will try the lasagne because they are on a diet, but they can try just a little bit.”

Executive chef Grzegorz Kazubski stated that it was nice to, “Do something that shows that the Poles are very proud the Italians choose this place to stay during the Euro Cup."

The England team are also staying Krakow, and if they prevail against the Italians on Sunday, perhaps the chefs will turn their attention towards making a humongous shepherd’s pie to honour their efforts.
