Manchester United were knocked out in the second round of the Capital One Cup by MK Dons on Tuesday evening as the Red Devils suffered a 4-0 humiliating defeat.

Jonny Evans' error in the first half saw William Grigg open the scoring for the League One side before extending the lead with a simple goal in the second half. He was replaced by Benik Afobe, who is on-loan from Arsenal, added two more to the overall tally in the final 20 minutes of the match.

Louis van Gaal is yet to win his first competitive match as United manager as he has already suffered two defeats out of three matches played so far in this season. The defeat came on the same day as the Old Trafford club broke the British record transfer fee in signing Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.

Football fans took on social networking site after United's latest defeat against the lower league side.

Dont ask me how my night was,I had a terribly funny dream that United lost 4-0 to MK Dons.

MK Dons outplayed us. Yes it was a reserve team trying to adapt to a new formation but it’s still Manchester United.
