Full time at the Phillips Arena and Manchester United follow Manchester City in being defeat on matchday one. Of course, the game has been overshadowed by the injury to Luke Shaw which looked like a broken leg. Real Madrid, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid meanwhile all victorious on a high scoring evening in Europe.

That is all we have time for on this live text but we're back tomorrow to follow the trials of Arsenal and Chelsea. Until then however goodbye.

Three added minutes at the Phillips Arena. PSV defending very deep but United showing little sign of breaking through.

Full time at the Etihad Stadium and Manchester City's troubles in this competition continue as they are defeated and outsmarted by Juventus. Uphill task already for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

De Jong should put Manchester United out of sight but he blasts over. United don't look like getting their way back into this game at this stage, if anything PSV looks likely to increase their lead. Manchester City meanwhile, huffing and puffing at the Etihad as the game slips into three added minutes.

Sergio Aguero on for Manchester City to an effort to rescue a point. Manuel Pellegrini's men again flattering to deceive in this competition.

Goal: Sevilla 3-0 Borussia Monchengladbach (Yann Sommer own goal)

Goal: Manchester City 1-2 Juventus (Alvaro Morata)

Juventus turn the game on its head and grab the lead with nine minutes left. Cuadrado causes a nuisance down the right and keeps the attack alive with a header inside and Morata reacts first and curls a beauty beyond Joe Hart and into the corner beyond Joe Hart.

Goal: Real Madrid 4-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Cristiano Ronaldo)

Goal: Manchester City 1-1 Juventus (Mario Mandzukic)

Joe Hart concedes his first goal of the season and it is a bit of a soft one. A long ball forward from Pogba isn't out by Kompany and Mandzukic is on hand to bury the chance at the back post.

Goal: Sevilla 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbach (Ever Banega)

Goal: PSV Eindhoven 2-1 Manchester United (Luciano Narsingh)

United caught on the break and an already bad evening in Holland threatens to turn into a nightmare. Lestienne crosses from the right after getting in behind Darmian and his cross sees Narsingh arch his body and head beyond De Gea.

Goal: Benfica 3-0 Astana (Kostas Mitroglou)

Goal: PSV Eindhoven 2-1 Manchester United (Luciano Narsingh)

Goal: Real Madrid 3-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Cristano Ronaldo)

City should have doubled their lead straight away as Bony dummies the ball and Silva feeds Sterling who shoots across Buffon, is denied by the World Cup winner, before he smothers the follow-up effort from Silva. Fine double save.

Goal: Manchester City 1-0 Juventus (Giorgio Chiellini)

Deadlock broken at the Etihad Stadium but in controversial circumstances. David Silva's corner is in towards Kompany, who takes a ride on Chiellini's shoulders and with the Italian under pressure he can only head the ball past Buffon into the corner. A clear goal and the Juve defender is fuming at the officials. He has a pint too.

Goal: Real Madrid 2-0 Shakhtar Dontsk (Cristiano Ronaldo)

Here is an update from the man himself:

Game back underway in Eindhoven. A cloud still cast over the game after the injury to Shaw. We await further update regarding his condition.

Goal: Sevilla 1-0 Borussia Monchengladbach (Kevin Gameiro)

BT Sport understand that Luke Shaw has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg. Our thoughts are with the Manchester United full back. Meanwhile, games are back underway across Europe. Naturally, they are behind in Eindhoven.

Half time now at the Phillips Arena where it is 1-1 at half time. That game will be a late finisher given the eight added minutes. The headlines of course dominated by the injury to Luke Shaw.

Half time across Europe including at the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City are being held by Juventus. Still playing in Holland however where eight minutes have been added on.

Goal: PSV 1-1 Manchester United (Hector Moreno)

The hosts are level in the second minute of eight added minutes at the Phillips Arena. The Mexican rises highest from a corner and though Daley Blind tries to cut the header out, he can only nod it beyond Ashley Young on the line.

It should be two for United and again it is Depay who escapes as PSV are outnumbered, but the Dutchman slams his effort just wide of the right-hand post. Chris Smalling almost makes it two with a rampaging run but Zoet makes a fine save.

Goal: PSV 0-1 Manchester United (Memphis Depay)

United open the scoring in Eindhoven. Depay collects the ball from Blind, skips past two defenders and calmly slots the ball under the onrushing Zoet.

Goal: Wolfsburg 1-0 CSKA (Julian Draxler)

Half a chance for Martial to net his first European goal for the club. Mata's free-kick finds the Frenchman all alone but he miss-times the header and the ball goes harmlessly wide.

Brilliant chance for City. Evra gives the ball away to Silva, who immediately feeds Bony. The City forward slips past Bonucci but can't keep his cools and he slices and high and wide from a central position. Desperately poor finish.

Goal: Real Madrid 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Karim Benzema)

Juventus have begun well at the Etihad Stadium, keeping Manchester City to rare glimpses of goal since Gianluigi Buffon denied Raheem Sterling early on Alvaro Moratta has a half chance but though he beats Joe Hart, the goes wide of his left post.

Goal: Galatasaray 0-2 Atletico Madrid (Antoine Griezmann)

Shaw off and Rojo on for Manchester United. Daley Blind to left back.

Two goals in the early stages of proceedings, both of clubs who are expected to compete for this year's title. The opening goal of the competition came after four minutes when Angel di Maria swept home on his European debut for PSG. In Turkey, Atletico Madrid lead through Antoine Griezmann. Back in Eindhoven meanwhile, Luke Shaw has only just been lifted from the turf. A lengthy stoppage has really overshadowed this match.

No goals in Eindhoven but Luke Shaw has suffered a horrendous injury and he is currently getting treatment. Think Eduardo and Aaron Ramsey and you are close to establishing the severity of the injury. Awful luck for the England international.

The gremlins have infected the IBT system on the stroke of the games across Europe starting. I will bring you up to date as soon as possible.

Noticeably several empty seats at the Etihad Stadium as we approach kick-off. In stark contrast to events in Eindhoven, where the Phillips Arena is jam-packed and rocking ahead of the game.

English clubs toiled in Europe last season, with one being dumped out in the group phase while Chelsea went the furthest in only reaching the quarter final. This season's Premier League quartet don't look at strong as in previous years and with some testing opposition in the group phase, it could be another difficult campaign. The first two matchdays will give us a decent indication of their success for sure.

What of United's opponents PSV, who are the opponents for Louis van Gaal's return to the Champions League. Eindhoven regained the league title last term but their squad has been decimated during the summer transfer window, with Georgino Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay leaving the club in big money moves. Tonight sees Phillip Cocu field the second youngster team in PSV's second youngster team in European competition but what problem can they cause a United team still fusing together?

Let's start to look at the opponents facing the English pair tonight, with a glance at last year's much-changed runners-up Juventus. Gone are Carlos Tevez and Andrea Pirlo, key figures in their route to the final, and in are the likes of Mario Manzukic - a winner of the competition with Bayern Munich, Hernanes, Juan Cuadrado and Sami Khedira. The first three all start for Juve tonight at the Etihad Stadium.

For those wondering, Arsenal and Chelsea get their campaigns underway on Wednesday night in two ties of vast importance. The Gunners travel to Croatia to face league champions Dinamo Zagreb while Jose Mourinho's side host Maccabi Tel-Aviv, ahead of their clash against each other at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Manchester City might be without Sergio Aguero from the start tonight, but the Argentina international is on the bench after suffering a bang on the knee against Palace. The goal-shy Bony leads the attack meanwhile but the return of David Silva could be pivotal.

So after his stunning intervention against Liverpool, Anthony Martial takes his place in the Manchester United starting eleven for the first time ever. Will be fascinating to see how he gets on.

Manuel Pellegrini welcome back two of their three injury victims from the trip to Crystal Palace, with David Silva and Raheem Sterling returning after missing the game in place of Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero. Wilfried Bony leads the attack.

After marking his first start in the grand manner, Anthony Martial is given his first start for Manchester United in place of Marouane Fellaini, amid the continued absence of Wayne Rooney. Ashley Young comes in for Michael Carrick in the only other change.
