So, Juventus take a lead to the principality after Arutro Vidal's penalty gave them victory over Monaco. The visitors impressed but know they require a performance much improved on their display against Arsenal in the last round.

In Madrid, Atletico kept Real at bay and extended their record to one defeat in nine against Carlo Ancelotti's men. That one could really go either way.

Well that is all we have time for on this Champions League live blog. We're back tomorrow with live coverage of PSG v Barcelona and Porto v Bayern Munich but until then goodbye.

Full time: Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Full time: Juventus 1-0 Monaco

Into stoppage time in both first legs. Three minutes to go in both games.

Fernando Torres causing problems already first as he goes up for an aerial challenge and forces a corner, from which he shoots acrobatically and forces Casillas into a fine save.

Fernando Torres on for Koke, a sign Atletico aren't overly happy with the state of things. Not long to find a winner, though if his return to the club is any indication Torres' goals have been timely.

Isco on and Benzema off for Real. Less than a quarter of an hour to find an away goal. Atletico have offered very little in this second half, as far as chances go.

Dimitar Berbatov on for Monaco and he almost immediate finds the equaliser. A corner from the left is into the six yard box and the ex-Spurs striker gets clear but can only head over. Great opportunity.

Real pressed we we enter the final quarter in Madrid. Gareth Bale is first denied with a last ditch block before the ball is hacked clear before Ronaldo can get on the end of the rebound. A more even second period.

Monaco have survived going down to 10-men and with that decision they have a chance, almost levelling straight away as Kondogbia is denied from range by Buffon. Fine stop. In Madrid, it's a bit scrappy which will favour the visitors.

Goal: Juventus 1-0 Monaco (Arturo Vidal)

A goal at last after 56 minutes and it goes to Juventus from the penalty spot. Pirlo puts Moratta in behind but just as he is about to take the ball down he is taken out from behind by Carvalho, perhaps accidently. The ex-Chelsea man escapes with a yellow card but Monaco don't escape losing going behind as Vidal crashes home the penalty.

Penalty for Juventus

Monaco go again and Juventus look exposed every time they break. Carrasco feeds Bernardo Silva who fires one in and Buffon makes a fine near post save.

Juventus again guilty of another missed chance. A corner from the left goes over the whole Monaco defence, evades Subasic and Tevez can't make proper contact from six yards out. In Madrid, Mario Mandzukic has a nasty cut to his left eye after an inadvertent elbow from Ramos

Half an opportunity for Monaco as Carvalho heads over despite being manhandled. The side from the principality giving a very good account of themselves.

We've had chances galore in the first halfs in Madrid and Turin but we need soe goals before these games fizzle out to poor draws, with both sides happy to allow next week's second legs to decide the tie. teams out in both games and we're nearly ready to go for the second 45 minutes.

Few gremlins in the system at IBT HQ but we've reached half-time in both of our last eight first leg matches. In the Spanish capital, Real have dominated the derby and have gone close through Bale and James in the opening 45 minutes.

In Turin, it's been a real end-to-end affair with chances for both teams. Alvaro Moratta, Carlos Tevez and Artuo Vidal have missed golden chances while Ferreira-Carrasco has missed two opportunities at the other end with Gianluigi Buffon at his best on both occasions. Entertaining evening even though we are bereft of a goal.

Chance for Juventus and they should really be ahead by now. A cross from the left goes over everyone and finds Tevez, whose side-foot volley is weak and Subasic makes an easy save.

No goals but both ties off to a flying start in the opening quarter of an hour. Real continue to dictate in Madrid but they can't break through their local rivals yet while in Turin, Juve are dominating possession but Monaco look frighteningly good on the counter. Carrasco, who scored against Arsenal don't forget, looks a real player.

First strike in anger from Cristiano Ronaldo and Oblak makes a good low save. At the Juventus Stadium, Monaco are guilty of missing a golden chance to grab an away goal as Ferreira-Carrasco tricks his way through and Buffon makes the save. Carrasco goes close again with an effort from 20 yards but Buffon pushed the ball behind.

Chance in Turin and how are Juventus not ahead? A ball towards the back post finds Moratta who instead of pulling the back to Tevez shoots first time on the volley and skies the ball over the bar. Either way, the hosts should be ahead.

First chance for Real and they should really be ahead. Gareth Bale is slipped through and Oblak sticks out an arm and makes the important save. Almost a vital away goal for the holders.

Teams out and we're under way in Turin. Just waiting to start in Madrid.

The continent's finest competition returns for the last eight phase and though we are without any of the four English sides who qualified from last season we have some tasty ties to fill the void. The headline quarter-final is a repeat of last season's final, where La Liga champions Atletico Madrid host Champions League holders Real Madrid. Diego Simeone's side have an outstanding recent record against their Spanish city neighbours with just one defeat in their last eight meetings.

The other tie sees the return of two of Europe's giants into the quarter-final. Juventus, whose last triumph came back in 1996, take on the competitions relative minnows in Monaco - the 2004 finalists. Carlos Tevez inspired Juve to victory over Borrusia Dortmund in the last round while Monaco held out to deny Arsenal on away goals. All the team news, updates and goals as they go in on the way.
