An imperious Real Madrid swept aside Lyon to record their third straight victory and leave them poised to secure qualification for the knock-out phase.

Goals from Karim Benzema, Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil and Sergio Ramos ensured a comfortable 4-0 win for the hosts.

French striker Benzema was on hand to prod home at the far post in the 19th minute, as Real opened the scoring against a ragged Lyon side.

Madrid dominated proceedings from the start and it was no surprise when they doubled their lead in the 47th minute. Khedira converting Benzema's cross before his fellow German Ozil hit the third soon after.

Lyon, who had won three and drawn four previous encounters with Real since 2005, never looked threatening and Ramos ended the blitz with a well-struck volley late on.
