Ukrainian journalist Oles Buzyan has been gunned down near his home in Kiev on 16 April.

Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko announced on Facebook that the pro-Russian journalist was shot by a passing blue Ford Focus car in Dehtiarivska Street in the Shevchenko district of Kiev.

"The famous journalist Oles Buzyna has just been killed on Dehtiarivska Street near the house No. 58 from a dark blue Ford Focus car. The license plates on the car were Latvian or Belarussian, but not Ukrainian," he said.

The crime scene has now been cordoned off while forensic officers carry out their investigation.

Herashchenko said Buzyna was a witness in a case linked with a pro-Russian rally in Kiev, which led to the former president Viktor Yanukovych fleeing the country in 2014, AP reported.

Anna Demid, deputy chairman of the Right Sector organization, according to UNIAN news, also confirmed the TV presenter's killing.

"Oles Buzyna has just been killed... Right in the yard near the house. Everyone heard the shots."
