Athletic Bilbao have reportedly told sources in England that a deal for Ander Herrera to go to Manchester United won't go through this month with the midfielder committed to the club for the rest of the season.

Herrera was the subject of late interest from United in the summer transfer window but David Moyes was unable to land the 24 year old, who insisted after the deadline day mayhem that he never spoke to the manager about a move to Old Trafford and was happy at Athletic.

And with the winter transfer window now upon us it's believed United will once again try and make a move for the Spaniard. But they will face an uphill battle with Sky Sports reporting that he isn't interested in exiting Athletic mid-season.

The La Liga club have had a brilliant first half of the season and are currently fourth in the table with Champions League football firmly in their sights.

Herrera had a shaky start to the current campaign with Athletic, with the transfer rumours appearing to have affected the Spain under 23 international, but he is now back on track and was recently quoted as saying by the Basque press that he has no intention of leaving San Mames.

"I am happy in Bilbao, and I want to help the club improve this season," he said.

A source reportedly told Sky Sports: "We know people are looking but the situation has not changed.

"Ander has us that he does not want to leave the club in this moment."

Herrera reportedly has a buy-out clause worth around €36m but that will rise in the summer to €40m. United are in desperate need of a midfielder and the young star has been touted for big things, who could go a long way to solving the side's crisis in the middle of the park.
