Directioners everywhere weeped when Zayn Malik quit One Direction and sharing their devastation were fellow boy band The Vamps, who have revealed that they "cried" over the news.

The Somebody To You hitmakers recently remixed their latest single Oh Cecilia as a tribute to Malik, 22, who suddenly quit 1D in March.

Speaking to the IBTimes UK at the London premiere of teen movie Up All Night in Leicester Square, The Vamps revealed - perhaps jokingly - that they were heartbroken when news broke of Malik's departure.

Singer Connor Ball told us: "We all cried I think. We were quite down about it. We all had a hug."

When asked if they had been in contact with Malik since dedicating their song to the former 1D star, Bradley Simpson added: "We haven't, I mean it was a pretty awful cover on our behalf.

The Vamps remix Oh Cecilia for Zayn Malik:

"We watched the video back afterwards and it wasn't the most tuneful we've ever sounded."

During their comical revised karaoke spoof on Radio 1, the boys sang: "Zayn Malik, you're breaking my heart, you've left Louis, Liam, Niall, and Harry.

"I turn my laptop on, One Direction look wrong/Why would you do this for me?"

The four-piece certainly been busy recently, making their first big screen cameo alongside Britain's Got Talent duo Bars & Melody in Up All Night and also working on their new album.

Teasing the follow-up to their hit 2014 debut Meet The Vamps, Tristan Evans said: "It's nearly done, we're about two thirds of the way there.

"The release is 27 November, the first single will be out a couple of months before then hopefully so we're excited to get more music out there."

Meet The Vamps peaked at number two on the charts when it was released in August 2014 and featured the singles, Can We Dance, Wild Heart and Last Night.
