The VELUX Lovers of Light competition attracted 15,000 entries from amateur, professional and mobile phone photographers. The judges have whittled these down to a shortlist of ten finalists.

Tom Dyckhoff, one of the judges, said: "The top 10 are so diverse, but the one thing they all have in common is the creative and thought provoking way they've each thought about and played with daylight."

The results will be announced on 30 March, with the overall winner receiving a trip to Norway perfectly timed to coincide with the midnight sun.
