After months of anticipation and excitement, the winners of the Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011 were announced yesterday.

This slideshow shows is s selection of some of the breath taking pictures captured by photographers from around the world, with the overall winner for Wildlife Photographer of the Year going to Spain's Daniel Beltrá for his work documenting the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in April 2010.
