Two men have been arrested in Walsall on suspicion of terror offences related to Syria Reuters

Two men accused of plotting terror attacks related to Syria have been arrested in Walsall. Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit detained the men, aged 25 and 32, at their home address under the Terrorism Act.

They are accused of the preparation, commission or instigation of terrorist-related offences and relate to Syria.

A West Midlands Police statement said: "Officers are this morning carrying out searches at a number of addresses in the Walsall area associated with the suspects. The arrests were made under terrorism legislation, meaning officers have an initial 48 hours to question the suspects before charging, releasing or applying for a warrant of further detention."

The arrests were part of an ongoing investigation, police said, and there was no immediate threat to public safety.
