Lady Gaga talks about the Countess's addictions in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "There is a journey for my character, in particular, through hemophilia and her need to drink blood to survive and to stay young, and that's entwined with other stories about a need for sex, a need for freedom, a need for drugs, a need for attention, a need to survive."

The singer also offered a few plot teasers for the rest of the season. Gaga said, "What's interesting about this season is that you see the dichotomy of the two worlds: You have the hotel world, which feels decidedly like the Ryan Murphy world, and then you have the outside world. It's addiction as the public sees it versus how it really is and how that all plays into each other."

Other than Gaga, there are several twisted characters in the series. The hotel is managed by Iris (Kathy Bates), whose son Donovan (Matt Bomer) has a romantic relationship with the Countess. Finn Wittrock, plays an up-and-coming male model Tristan Duffy. Actress Sarah Paulson plays a drug addict called Hypodermic Sally. Evan Peters stars as James March and Wes Bentley plays detective John Lowe. Chloë Sevigny stars as Alex Lowe, Denis O'Hare and Cheyenne Jackson will play Liz Taylor and Will Drake. Angela Bassett will play the role of Ramona Royale, Max Greenfield as heroin addict Gabriel and Naomi Campbell as Claudia.
