Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Andy Serkis' Caesar 20th Century Fox

A new trailer for forthcoming prequel sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has been released online.

You can watch it below...

Directed by Cloverfield's Matt Reeves, the film stars Andy Serkis as super-intelligent ape Caesar, who must fight and fight alongside human survivors Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Jason Clarke.

It's the sequel to the 2011's Planet of the Apes prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which surprised fans and critics alike by being much better than it really had any right to be.

The reason why was Serkis, who in his full motion-capture glory was superb as Caesar, the ape given a powerful drug meant to cure Alzheimer's which inadvertently unlocks human-like intelligence in apes and creates a simian flu that wipes out most of humanity.

Dawn takes place 15 years after the events of the first film, with humanity on the brink of extinction thanks to the virus and devastating wars that arose from it. Meanwhile Caesar leads an increasingly more civilised community of apes, and his own infant child.

As humans survive and increasing amount of them start to blame the apes, but others defend their right to live and evolve in peace. Jason Clarke and Keri Russell are welcomed and accepted into Caesar's world but Gary Oldman has other, war-mongering plans.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set for release on 17 July.
