Emmy Award-winning hit comedy show Modern Family returns with its seventh season on Wednesday 23 September, on ABC Family. In the pilot episode, Hayley and Andy will be seen dealing with their feelings for each other.
Episode 1 of season 7 is titled Summer Lovin', where Phil will try to hook up Hayley and Andy, but could end up ruining their relationship. Fans will also get to see Alex going off to college, while Gloria would explore her entrepreneur side and Mitch and Cameron would face an unforeseen crisis.
The official synopsis of Summer Lovin' reads:
"Haley's attempt to stop Andy from proposing to Beth will end up with both Haley and Andy needing to cope with their emotions and both will have their own special ways of doing so, and Phil and Claire seem to only make matters worse. Jay and Gloria look at pre-schools for Joe and get a rude awakening after they realize the competitive wait list to get in. Meanwhile, Cam tries to remain supportive of Mitch's midlife career crisis, but money is getting a little tight, so Cam comes up with a scheme to get Mitch's old job back."
Meanwhile, co-creator Christopher Lloyd in a prelude to the upcoming season told Yahoo TV, "You know, Haley's sort of been going for more superficial guys, and I think Andy's been going for sort of more law-and-order, kind of mother types, and these are not their typical types, which makes it fun to contemplate what it would be like for them to be together."
Speaking about Andy and Hayley's cliffhanger ending in season 6, Lloyd said that their relationship will be carefully explored next. According to him, Andy and Hayley would take small steps towards each other. "When you're changing your pattern in life, you approach it tentatively and carefully, so that's why they've sort of been taking it in small steps up until this point, and sort of each is a little bit afraid of making too much of a move. And that kind of continues through the coming season," he said.
Moreover, in season 6, Mitch and Cam were planning to adopt another baby, and Lloyd has claimed that they would continue to do so. "They're definitely still thinking about it. There are lots of pros and cons, and they don't want to rush into that decision. They're kind of in a little bit of a [setback] financially, which makes that maybe not the best path for them to get on right now," he said of Mitch and Cam.
Lloyd further teased that the couple may run into some financial crisis early on this season. "They convert the upstairs unit, which they purchased last year, into a rental income place, but more of a short-term rental income so they basically are like innkeepers. They have people staying upstairs on short-term visits, and it gives us a chance to put lots of people into Cam and Mitch's world."
