A video showing an Alabama police dog doing push-ups alongside two police officers has gone viral. The canine does the push-ups as the song "Eye of the Tiger" plays in the background.

The seven-second video features Nitro, the newest member of the Gulf Shores Police Department's K9 Unit, Officer Cowan and Officer Hancock warming up before their night duties.

The video has been viewed more than 700,000 times since it was posted on the department's Facebook page on Saturday (18 November).

"K9 Nitro, Officer Cowan and Officer Hancock are getting warmed up and ready to apprehend any bad guys that break the law!" the video description read.

Nitro, the 2-year-old Dutch shepherd, joined the Gulf Shores Police Department's canine unit in February, Al.com reported.

Gulf Shores police corporal Josh Coleman said the video was part of a social media trend called the #9PMRoutine.

The trend was started by the Pasco County Sheriff's Department in Florida.

The "9pm routine" is "simply a friendly reminder to remove valuables from the car and lock up" at the end of the day, Coleman said. "Unlocked vehicle thefts are 100 percent preventable."

With this video going viral, Coleman said that other members of the K9 Unit will also feature in future videos.
