West Indies managed to win the 1<sup>st ODI played on Friday registering a 15-run victory against England.

Despite losing four wickets for just 45 runs, the hosts posted a total of 269 runs in 50 overs with the help of Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Bravo (87) and Darren Sammy's half-centuries.

Simmons scored 65 runs before being dismissed by Tim Bresnan while Sammy added 61 runs to his account before sacrificing his wicket to the fast bowler on the last ball of the innings.

Bresnan nabbed three wickets in the opening innings while Joe Root, James Tredwell and Moeen Ali took one each.

Engalnd's opening batsmen, Michael Lumb and Ali (44) got off to a bright start registering a 96-run partnership for the first wicket. Following the Ali's dismissal, the remaining batsmen failed to contribute significantly to their side.

Michael Lumb (106) smashed a century to give Stuart Broad's side a chance to win the game before walking back to the pavilion in the 37<sup>th over.

Root was the third best scorer with 37 while Ravi Bopara (23) and Bresnan (14) remained unbeaten at the end to manage a total of 254 runs before running out of overs.

Broad will be hoping that his side can post a comeback in the three-match series by winning the second ODI.
