Overview

Hosts West Indies struggles in the longer formats of the game. And, they are still continuing to do so , with the Men from Caribbean plunging deeper into crisis, after their performances in the first Test match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

West Indies's inept display where they lost by an innings and 92 runs in the first Test have given fans yet another indication of the task ahead if they are to flourish in the five-day game. The hosts despite playing at home looked like the outsiders, first conceding 566 runs to India in the first innings and then getting bowled out twice for scores of 243 and 231.

It was said that this was the weakest bowling attack to ever turn out for West Indies in their cricketing history and it looked that way with none of the bowlers barring Shannon Gabriel troubling the batsman. Skipper Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite are at best middling seam bowling options, and cannot be considered among your main wicket-takers.

The batting is heavily dependent on Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo and if they fail as was the case in the first Test, West Indies tend to struggle. The hosts will ideally need both of them to fire, if the West Indies are to cause an upset.

The visitors India, come into this game full of confidence thrashing the hosts by an innings and 92 runs to register their biggest win in West Indies and second biggest win in Asia. Spinner R Ashwin and skipper Virat Kohli were the stars for the Indians on a surface which was slow and low.

Kohli who scored 200, his maiden double ton set the pace for the visitors, after which it was the R Ashwin's show. The off-spinner first hit 113, his third Test century and then spun a web around the opposing batsman taking 7/83 to pick up the Player of the Match award. In fact, all three of Ashwin's Test centuries have come against West Indies.

What was impressive was that the entire team played their part in the win, with even the pace-bowlers Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma sticking to their plans.

The Men In Blue come into this clash as the definite favourites, and are expected to field the same eleven that won them the first Test.
