A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion for the attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl in Lindfield, West Sussex, on Thursday.

The victim, who had serious stab wounds to her face and body, was found at a house in the High Street at 3.20 a.m.. The suspect was also located in a nearby recreation ground with injuries to his wrists and fingers. According to the police, both the victim and the suspect, who were known to each other, were taken to into custody and later released.

The Sussex police have voluntarily referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission due to recent police contact with the suspect and the victim. "This is standard practice whenever there has been recent police contact with anyone involved in a subsequent incident," said a police spokesperson.
