Xiaomi Mi Mix
The Xiaomi Mi Mix the company's most recent launch will not be among the first to get the update Xiaomi

Xiaomi has revealed that Mi 4c, Mi 4s and Mi Note will be among the first to get an Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 software update.

The company says the beta testing for Nougat based update has already started. An MIUI operations manager revealed on Chinese social media site Weibo that few of its phones will be among the first to receive Android Nougat.

There is no word, however, on when newer handsets like the Mi Note 2, Mi 5s Plus or Mi MIX will be updated. The above mentioned handsets have probably been prioritised as they are among the most widely available models of Xiaomi, which makes only select models available to other markets than China. The Mi Mix is also a China-exclusive model.

As for other handsets, a rumour had hinted that among the lower budget phones the Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3 , 3S , 3A and the Redmi Pro will get the update.

Xiaomi, like OnePlus, has its custom ROM and MIUI which is based on the stock Android experience. The Android based update will be called MIUI 9 and is expected to feature some additional Xiaomi goodies other than Android's regular Nougat features.

Although, little is known about the MIUI 9 a leaked screenshot was spotted in the wild sometime back showing the Nougat-based updated OS. The release date of the final update is not known and it is less likely to happen by the end of this year.
