While some parents-to-be already have their child's names picked out long before the umbilical cord even is cut, Adam Levine's furore into fatherhood was not so smooth. The Maroon 5 frontman has revealed that his celeb pal Ellen DeGeneres came to the rescue after him and his wife Behati Prinsloo struggled to find the perfect moniker for their baby girl, Dusty Rose.

The 37-year-old singer divulged details of the selection process during a recent appearance on DeGeneres' talk show. He told the audience that although they had a name picked out initially, it wasn't quite right.

"The name game is a tough game. It's very hard, arduous. Imagine you're writing the best song you've ever written in your life and you have to name it," he explained. "It's really screwed up to actually have to put yourself through that."

He recalled reaching out to an unimpressed DeGeneres for a second opinion. "She was like, 'I hate it. I think it's a terrible name.' I was like, 'Cool.'" the rocker said. "She gave me like five names to think about: this, this, this, this, Dusty."

Degeneres added that after someone suggested Rose − which is "a beautiful color" − she knew she had struck gold. "That's how I thought of it," the host explained. "I had already thought of Dusty and then someone said 'Dusty Rose.' I said, 'Oh, that's her name,' and so I texted you, 'Dusty Rose.' "

Levine replied: "You basically named my kid. If anyone needs to name their child, Ellen's really good at it."

Although Levine was already sold, he then had to convince his supermodel other half, who wasn't initially thrilled. But undeterred he allowed the name to marinade, and when he came back to her later date, she had done a complete 180. "I'm like 'Dusty's pretty cool!' She's like, 'I love it!'"

Levin and former Victoria's Secret Angel Prinsloo welcomed their daughter on 21 September after two years of marriage. The Voice coach celebrated the birth by sharing a black and white picture of the little girl resting peacefully on her father's heavily-tattooed chest. "Words can't describe Dusty Rose Levine 9/21/16," the new mum wrote along with the sweet image of the father and daughter.
