Hollywood hunk Channing Tatum has put himself forward to play sexy billionaire Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey movie.

The 32-year-old Magic Mike star has become the latest celebrity to be put in the frame to play the protagonist in the film adaptation of the bestselling bondage trilogy by EL James.

Tatum told Glamour magazine that he would be willing to take on the role - but only if his wife Jenna Dewan could star opposite him.

"I'd only be allowed if my wife was Ana. She's read the books so I don't think she'd be impressed if she couldn't be Ana," he said.

Tatum met Dewan, who is a dancer and actress, on the set of 2006 movie Step Up.

The couple married in the grounds of Church Estates Vineyards, in Malibu, California, in 2009.

James's erotic novel follows a young college student as she embarks on a sado-masochistic relationship with an older businessman, Christian Grey.

The success of the raunchy read has made it the fastest selling book of 2012.

Other stars reportedly lined up to play the billionaire with interesting tastes in the bedroom include Ryan Gosling and Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder.

Michael Fassbender and True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard have also been linked to the role.
