The next update to Windows Phone 8.1 is currently under testing, reveals a new report.

It has been rumoured that Microsoft is planning for two more updates to Widows Phone 8.1, internally known as General Distribution Releases (GDRs) or, GDR1 and GDR2 (also known as Update 1 and Update 2).

The Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 is currently in dogfooding process and Microsoft is in later stage of internal testing, reports Neowin. The update is expected to be released sometime later this year.

Although the update is internally referred as GDR, it is unclear if the name of the update will be the same on its release. Given Microsoft changed the recent update to Windows Phone 8 and Update 3, there is a possibility the the name is not the final one.

Windows 9

The report further suggests the development process for Windows 9 is slightly slower than Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1. The Windows team has reportedly begun to share its development progress with other divisions across the company.

The next major update for Microsoft's desktop operating system is still under development with the preview version scheduled for a release in Q3-Q4 2015, as reported earlier.

Windows 8.1

The next update to Windows 8.1 Update 1, which might be called Windows 8.2 or Windows 8.1 Update 2 is also expected to release soon. The RTM (Release to Manufacturing) is said to be scheduled in July, hinting at a public release in either August or September.
