The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt landscape world setting

If you're planning to play CD Projket Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS4, then you're going to need to free up a lot of room on the hard drive.

The enormous fantasy role playing game will require at least a 50GB install according to the game's listing on several European PlayStation storefronts (via DualShockers).

PC gamers will be required to free up 40GB for the game. There's no news yet on the Xbox One version of The Witcher 3, but it will probably match the PS4 version.

The game's file size shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has followed its development progress since it was announced in early 2013. Usually a game with such stunning visuals would have to trim down the size of its open world, but Witcher 3's is huge.

In 2014, Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS4 clocked in around the same size. Bioware's RPG Dragon Age: Inquisition required 40-46GB.

The 50GB is described as the "minimum" size, probably alluding to future downloadable content (DLC) for the game. Last year developers CD Projekt Red proudly boasted that all DLC for the game would be released for free.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set for release on 19 May 2015 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
