Xiaomi releases MIUI 8 Global Stable ROM for supported devices Xiaomi

As promised, Xiaomi has started rolling out the global stable build for MIUI 8 to supported devices via an over-the-air update. Users should progressively see the OTA notification on their phones through the Updater app. Along with the global ROM, Xiaomi has also released the MIUI 8 China Stable ROM.

Xiaomi devices that are eligible to receive the latest MIUI version include Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, 2 Prime, Note 3 Qualcomm, Note 3 Special Edition, Note 2, Note 3G, Note 4G, Note Prime, Redmi 3, 3S/Prime, Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi 5, Mi Note and Mi Max (32GB).

At present the OTA update for MIUI 8 is live for users of Redmi 1S, Mi 2 and 2S, Mi 4i, Note 3G, Note 4G, Note 2 and the Redmi 2 and will be widely available for more users on 25 August. All the other supported devices will get update in phases, the company said in its official blog.

What's new in MIUI 8 Global Stable ROM

The MIUI 8 brings major updates in apps such as gallery, notes, calculator, scanner and more. Besides, there is a more interactive and colourful user interface.

Some of the highlights of the update include its ability to create scrolling screenshots, redesigned calculator, Quick ball, personalisation for notes with templates, new Gallery app, Dual apps that allows users to sign into dual accounts for apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook. Other features are second space, video editing which lets you spice up videos with filters, texts and background music, caller ID can identify incoming numbers or find out most used numbers when dialing and enhanced SMS.

Enhancements and fixes

Apart from these, you should be able to experience a bunch of optimisations and usual fixes. These includes improvements for sunlight display, sounds for delivered messages which you can add from Settings, animation showing successful Wi-Fi connection, floating notification format for incoming calls, and sound and vibration permissions for notifications.

This update also fixes errors in the Wi-Fi details page and accessibility for home screen. Some of the home screen optimisations are landscape mode for task manager, stable Task manager and UI details added in Task manager.

As for camera, you should see enhancements over the image quality. In addition to that the Gallery app now has automatic adjustments for photos when sharing, and the ability to delete photos from phone directly when browsing offline albums. It is important to note that these changes are usual but you might see a different changelog in different devices.
