While Sony's new Xperia lineup – the Z3+ and Z4 Tablet – are waiting for the latest Android Lollipop version, Sony has pushed out a firmware update for both devices based on Android 5.0.2, not 5.1.1. The company has updated the software support pages for both.

The latest availability noted as 28.0.A.8.251 should bring the bug fixes and other system enhancements. If you are an owner of either of the devices go to Settings >> About phone >> Software updates >> System updates to check the new release.

The firmware weighing more than 2GB is currently making its way through regions such as Italy, Turkey and Vietnam for the Xperia Z3+, whereas Z3+ Dual in China and Z4 Tablet LTE in Indonesia and Singapore.

Folks at XDA forum have also confirmed the roll-out. The update feels buttery smooth and the overall performance has improved with swiping in now quite snappier. The apps respond quite faster. According to a forum member, conan206 the update seems to have reduced the overheating, these Xperia devices were plagued with.

He has shared the screenshot for the AnTuTu benchmark version 5.7.1 where the Z3+ Dual (E6533) was tested against other rival handsets such as Note 4, OnePlus One, HTC One M8 and Zenfone 2. The Z3+ Dual has scored the highest points beating others in the list. The forum members have managed to capture the FTF links, which you can use for manual installation using Sony Flashtool.
