Looking at these beautiful shop windows seen here across London, it seems retailers are doing all they can, to lure us in and increase sales. Such as discounts, longer opening hours and fascinating decorations. But in spite of all this it seems it seems we are hanging on to our hard earned pennies.

The Office of National statistics said sales volumes were flat in November compared with October and Visa added to the bleak picture, announcing that the total value of sales using its payment system in the week to Sunday, 16 December - the penultimate week before Christmas - was down by 2.9% from a year ago. But it seems we do love a consumer electrical item as sales rose by 3.8%. and internet shopping is on the rise.

So the coming weekend with its last minute rush, will be crucial for high street retailers.
