London's mayor Boris Johnson said on Tuesday (April 16) that two major London events planned over the next week would go ahead, despite a bombing attack in Boston, USA that has caused the death of three people.

"The events in Boston were absolutely horrific, and obviously our thoughts are with the victims and their families. But in London the police will be taking every possible precaution to make sure that both the funeral tomorrow and the marathon at the weekend can go ahead as planned, as I am sure people would expect. What happened in Boston was horrific and our thoughts are with the families of the victims and of course the victims themselves. I don't think it's very easy to draw direct conclusions for what we should do in London, except of course that the police will be taking every possible precaution, to make sure that both the funeral and the marathon at the weekend can go ahead in the normal way as I'm sure people would expect."
