Manchester United travel to the Bernabeu for the first match of their two-legged Champions league clash with real Madrid tonight, as managers Jose Mourinho and Alex Ferguson prepare to face off once more. Mourinho said he hoped the match would live up to the hype.

"I hope the expectation has a relation to the quality of the match because sometimes the expectation is high and the quality of the match is not so good so I hope that with the players that we both have, I think we can give a big football match."

Both Ferguson and Mourinho have twice won the Champions League, with the Man Utd manager saying his side would try to win the first leg.

"I think they're one of the best counter attack teams in Europe now. The speed from penalty box to penalty box is very, very good. I think that we're aware of that. Also we have to play our own game too. The intention for Manchester is to always try and win and to always try and score and sometimes that can cause a bit of chaos in the kind of game that we get involved in."

The question is which stars will shine at the Bernabeu? Will Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie strike a killer blow to Madrid, or will Cristiano Ronaldo come back to haunt his old club? Ferguson insisted that tonight's match between the two footballing titans should provide a great spectacle for lovers of the game.

"I think Jose summed up perfectly yesterday that it's a game that everybody has been waiting for. It's a game for myself that's a fantastic challenge for us. It should be a fantastic match with two clubs, two teams, and two clubs who embrace the best parts of football."
