A close-up look at a part of the Sculptor Dwarf Galaxy
- By Staff Reporter
This is a ground-based view of the sky, from the Digitized Sky Survey 2, pointing toward the constellation of Sculptor. As we zoom in, we first see the Sculptor Dwarf Galaxy as it was observed by the 2.2-metre MPG/ESO telescope at ESO's La Silla Observatory in Chile. At the end, we see the tiny part of the galaxy observed with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Sculptor is a satellite galaxy that orbits the Milky Way and is dominated by stars as well as dark matter.
