Microsoft will reportedly skip the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, also known as Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2, in favour of Windows 10 for Phones, suggests a new report.

The Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 with a few significant changes such as sorting of Settings in Windows Phone with alphabetical option to reach desired settings, Mobile Data toggle in Action Center and Cortana for more regions, was expected to be out by October last year.

Besides, the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 was expected to support a couple of hardware features including support for 2K resolution display and quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor.

According to the new disclosure, these changes in the Update 2 will come along with the preview version of Windows Mobile 10.

NokiaPowerUser, based on information from unidentified sources, asserts that Microsoft will push out Windows 10 for Phones otherwise known as Windows Mobile 10, through Insiders soon. The new Windows operating system version for Windows Phone will be announced on the 21st of this month.

The Phone Insider app, which is available for download from the Windows Phone Store, will enable registered Windows Insiders to receive the pre-release update of Windows 10 for phones. This app is expected to replace the developer preview program for Windows 10 for phones.
