Arsenal are preparing a move to sign Liverpool midfield target Jeremy Menez before the transfer window shuts, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has less than six months left on his contract at Parc des Princes and has been linked with a move to the Merseyside club. The French international has seen his appearances being restricted and has made only five league starts under Laurent Blanc this season.

The report claims that Menez's agent has already made contact with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger for a potential transfer to the Emirates this month. The north London side are without the services of Theo Walcott for the rest of the season.

The England international was stretchered off the field after picking up an anterior cruciate ligament during Arsenal's 2-0 win over their arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the FA Cup in January.

The Arsenal manager has set his eyes on signing his compatriot as Wenger believes the addition of Menez in January could see him take Walcott's place in the squad. The midfielder has already featured in the Champions League and should he decide to make a switch to the Emirates he will be cup-tied for the European competition.

The Gunners have not yet made a signing in January. Wenger has hinted that the north London side could make additions in the final week of the transfer window as the Frenchman looks to strengthen his squad for the tough set of fixtures lined up in February and March.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are likely to face an uphill battle in signing Menez in January. The French midfielder claimed he will not leave PSG in the mid-season transfer and will see out his contract with the Ligue 1 club.

"I feel good. It's great to be able to play those sorts of games. Each time I've been given some playing time, I try to give my all," Menez explained.

"I'm going to try to win myself a place in the team, and work hard to achieve that. There may have been some difficult moments, but I say to myself that they will pass. Personally, I have never said that I want to leave," the midfielder added.
