Rio Carnival 2012: Beauty and the Beast [SLIDESHOW]

Wild celebrations have continued at the Rio Carnival, with the 2012 event bringing the usually mix of glamour and horror.

The unique parades that go on through Rio de Janeiro's Sambadrone has drawn hundreds of thousands of people.

Floats showcasing a mixture of lavishly designed costumes, ghouls and monsters have continued to amaze the spectators.

Residents of the city's favelas - or slums - are often members of a local samba school and are deeply involved with the performance and preparation of costumes.
