A North Carolina preacher has sparked outrage after calling for all queers and homosexuals to be killed during a televised church service.

In the two-minute video posted online, Charles Worley, of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, details his method for exterminating gays and lesbians in a sermon to his congregation.

"I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers," he declares.

"Build a great, big, large fence - 150- or 100-mile long - put all the lesbians in there... do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals, and have that fence electrified so they can't get out.

"Feed 'em, and you know what?" Worley continues. "In a few years, they'll die. Do you know why? They can't reproduce."

His shocking comments come on the tail of Presidents Barack Obama's announcement that he is in support of gay marriage.

They also follow North Carolina's recently approved constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

A clearly frustrated Worley continues to express his disgust by telling the applauding congregation: "It makes me pukin' sick to think about - I don't even know whether y'all can say this on the pulpit or not - can you imagine kissing some man?"

Hundreds of thousands of shocked viewers have since flocked online to share their views on his controversial statements.

One commentator wrote: "This is why religion is a joke to me... you call yourself a man of God in one breath and turn around and wish death on your 'brothers' in the next."

Another outraged viewer said: "How is this guy any better than Hitler?"

Catawba Valley Citizens Against Hat, the group that posted the clip to YouTube, has announced that it plans to protest against Worley and the church on Sunday, 27 May.
