Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), the owner of the radio station behind the prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital, will donate at least £326,000 to the family of the nurse who took her own life after patching through the call.

The company said it has decided to resume advertising on the station, 2DayFM, on Thursday and that all profits from its advertising until the end of the year will be given to Jacintha Saldanha's family - including her two teenage children and partner Ben Barboza.

SCA said a minimum contribution of AUD$500,000 (£326,000) will be made to the nurse's family.

Chief executive Rhys Holleran said: "We are very sorry for what has happened. It is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts continue to be with the family.

"We hope that by contributing to a memorial fund we can help to provide the Saldanha family with the support they need at this very difficult time.

"The company today reiterates that it is deeply saddened by this tragic and unforeseen event and offers its condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha."

The resumption of advertising on 2DayFM follows a temporary suspension, announced by SCA yesterday. However Summer30, the show which made and broadcast the prank call, has been completely terminated.

SCA has also implemented a company-wide suspension of prank calls, and will be undertaking a comprehensive review of related policies and processes.

A review of the process that led to the hoax call being broadcast found that company protocols were adhered to. It also found several unsuccessful attempts were made to discuss the call with the hospital.

A post-mortem of Saldanha, who was found dead on 7 December, will take place today (Tuesday).
