Sony Xperia V (LT25i) can now be updated to Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean) with the help of a CyanogenMod 10.1 (CM10.1) custom ROM. There is as yet no information on when the company will roll out the official Jelly Bean update for the Xperia V. But FreeXperia and CyanogenMod teams have come up with this update for the device.

Those who wish to install this ROM on Xperia V can check the below tutorial. In this ROM, several features are reported not working since it is a work-in-progress custom firmware.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Ensure the device has at least 80 percent battery charge
  • Make sure that USB driver is installed
  • Enable USB debugging
  • Ensure the device is rooted and has ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery installed
  • Finally, make a backup of all the data

To install Android 4.2.1 CM10.1 ROM on Xperia V:

  • Download CM10.1 Android 4.2.1 ROM and Google Apps
  • Connect and mount the device on computer via USB cable and copy the downloaded files to the SD card
  • Switch the device off and disconnect from USB cable
  • The device should enter Recovery mode. Turn the device on while pressing the Volume Down button repeatedly
  • In CMW recovery, perform data wipe. Scroll to and select Flash Zip from SD Card
  • Select Choose Zip from SD Card
  • Navigate to and select the ROM file. Confirm the installation and the installation process should begin now
  • Repeat the above step to install Google Apps
  • Go to +++++Go Back and reboot the device by choosing Reboot System Now

The Xperia V should now be running Android 4.2.1 based CM10.1 custom ROM. To verify, browse to Settings > About Phone
